Roughly 50 vehicles have been covered with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Cars, building surfaces and mailboxes were vandalized, sometimes with swastikas, they stated in a statement.
Officers say they were contacted during the night on Wednesday, when a man observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued fluid.
The substance had been placed in the shape of a banned symbol, they stated.
Officers then discovered numerous other vandalized automobiles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations outlawing the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials report early analysis indicate the substance was probably blood from a person.
"Currently there is no indication as to where it came from; investigators are not yet aware of any harm in association with the event," they commented.
Municipal representatives stated they were attempting "to resolve the case" and have requested to the residents for tips.
A high-ranking official commented the attack left him without words and needed to be addressed promptly.
"This incident affects the very heart of Hanau and revives the wounds of the far-right attack in 2020," he wrote on a platform, referring to the killing of nine victims by a shooter focusing on people of migrant background in 2020.
