19 of Medvedev's 21 titles have been earned on hard courts

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev won his maiden title for 882 days with a win over Corentin Moutet in the competition title decider.

Medvedev, a ex- top-ranked player, has experienced a torrid period, achieving just one win at the Grand Slams and undergoing a difficult moment at the US Open.

The player's unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his service game in specific - caused him dropping out of the world's top 10 and ultimately splitting with long-time mentor Gilles Cervara.

Currently working with his coach and Goetzke, the tennis star has steadily improved in the last few weeks - culminating in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over challenger Moutet.

It is his initial trophy after the Rome competition and initial on a hardcourt from that period of that year.

Success also signifies the Russian has won 21 victories at 21 different events.

"It's the first time I'm at a event with my children at once, so to win a title is really nice," stated world number 14 Medvedev.

"This title is in dedication of my child Victoria, because the first title I won when my child Alisa was delivered was for her."

The athlete, the past champion, had failed in his previous six title deciders, featuring in Halle earlier this year.

Medvedev's retrieving play style and frequent emotional displays on court had caused some to doubt if his ability to play at the top level was finished.

Yet the athlete has altered his approach in the past month, striving to come to the net and perform positively, supported by an enhanced serving game.

The champion came back from a break down in the opening set against the challenging Frenchman, securing 4 of the final five games to gain the advantage.

The pair swapped service breaks in the middle set before the challenger, bidding for his maiden ATP Tour title, seized the initiative to push for a decider.

Moutet saved four initial chances in a competitive final set before the Russian won the break to 15 to secure the win.

Fittingly, Medvedev secured victory with a shot at the net, with the Frenchman unable to handle a volley after a lengthy match.
